Euro 2012 will be held on 8 different cities in Poland and Ukraine. There are Gdansk, Poznan, Warsaw, and Wroclaw (Krakow) in Poland and Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Lviv in Ukraine. Yesterday I’ve shared the information of Poland, and today I’ll go with the information of Ukraine. 🙂
It located on the South-East part of Ukraine. It’s a highest HIV prevalence case in Ukraine. Nearby to Russia.
It’s located on the South East part of Poland too, and it’s above Donetsk. It’s a second largest city in Ukraine. The city was founded in 1654 and was a major centre of Ukrainian culture in the Russian Empire. Kharkiv became the first city in Ukraine where the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic was proclaimed in December 1917 and Soviet government was formed.
Kharkiv became and remained the capital of the Ukrainian SSR until 1934, when the administrative capital was moved to Kyiv.
Remember that the Chernobyl disaster ? It’s widely considered to have been the worst nuclear power plant accident before Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan. Chernobyl is located just about 100km north from Kyiv. However, the prevailing northward winds blew most of the radioactive debris away from the city.
Regarding to the flight information on how to get to Kyiv, please read my previous post ‘Cheap Flight Tickets to UEFA EURO 2012 (Kyiv,Ukraine)‘.
Lviv is located on the western Ukraine. It’s very near to Poland, especially to another host city – Krakow. The city is regarded as one of the main cultural centres of today’s Ukraine and historically has been a major Polish and Jewish cultural center, as Poles and Jews were the two main ethnicities of the city just before the outbreak of World War II and the following Holocaust and Polish population transfers (1944–1946).
It located in East of the Europe continent, above the Turkey and black sea, nearby to Russia and Belarussia.

Their official language is Ukrainian, and second language is Russian. Most of the citizens are unable to speak in English, because they are freely choose foreign language in secondary school, so some of them can speak English, some speak German, some Italian and so on.
However, Ukrainian are not friendly to Asian, so, be prepared when you’re unable to communicate with them, although they know how to speak English. I used to study there for 7 years, so I know them very well. Especially when you arrive the airport, some of the custom official may ask the bribe from you in order to free you in custom. HIV and AIDS cases are very serious in Ukraine. According to WHO statistics, there are almost 100,000 cases reported up to year 2006. Try to imagine, now is year 2012, what is the latest numbers ? And that only reported case, what about un-reported cases ? And Donetsk is the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence. So be really careful.
