We would like to introduce a lightweight application that will help you track and find your laptop/netbook if it ever gets stolen – Prey.
What Prey can do for you?
Prey helps you locate your missing laptop by sending timed reports with a bunch of information of its whereabouts. This includes the general status of the computer, a list of running programs and active connections, fully-detailed network and wifi information, a screenshot of the running desktop and — in case your laptop has an integrated webcam — a picture of the thief.

You can alert the user he’s being chased at by sending messages which’ll appear on screen. You can also trigger alarms to make the message clear not only to him but also to whomever is nearby. Be careful with this one! - Full auto updater
How it works ?
Prey works in 2 modes, which are:
- Prey + Control Panel <- – We Recommend you to use this mode
You manage your computer state and Prey’s configuration through a web page, which also keeps track of all reports sent by Prey from your device. - Prey Standalone
Report goes directly to your inbox but it’s up to you to generate the URL to activate Prey. In this case you don’t need to sign up in Prey but you’ll have to set up the different modules by hand if you want to tune things up.
However, Prey needs to have an active Internet connection to send the information. If the computer isn’t connected, Prey will attempt to connect to the nearest open wifi access point available.

What you need to do now is to login to Prey Control Panel here, and change the status of your device like show below and click on ‘Update’ button.
