6 weeks after Haiti earthquake, another massive earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 has struck central Chile on 27th Feb 2010.
Where is Chile ?
Two million people were affected, as the death toll rises above 700. The country’s president has declared Chile a “state of catastrophe”. The collapse of bridges tossed and crushed cars, and complicated efforts to reach quake-damaged areas by road. Buildings slumped and fell. Millions of people fled into streets darkened by the failure of power lines. They are now in dire need of food, water and shelter.
They needs our helps!
Today we will take this opportunity to introduce you another charity organization - Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) or we also called it as Doctor without Border.
Médecins Sans Frontières is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters.
It provides emergency medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 70 countries.
In countries where health structures are insufficient or even non-existant, MSF collaborates with authorities such as the Ministry of Health to provide assistance. MSF works in rehabilitation of hospitals and dispensaries, vaccination programmes and water and sanitation projects. MSF also works in remote health care centres, slum areas and provides training of local personnel. All this is done with the objective of rebuilding health structures to acceptable levels.
MSF consists of a team of medical and non medical volunteers which are Midwife, Nurse, Medical Doctor, Mental Health, Medical Coordinator, Financial Controller, Biomedical Scientist, Logistician, Anaesthetist, Nutritionist, Surgeon, Epidemiologist, Pharmacist and many more.
MSF won the Nobel Peace Price in year 1999 – “in recognition of the organization’s pioneering humanitarian work on several continents“.
